The National Trust is giving locals a bonus this spring by opening its doors for free on the weekend of 20-21 March 2010. Osterley Park House and Garden in Isleworth are inviting local people to visit free charge this weekend to celebrate the opening of this stunning property for the 2010 season.

The ‘Bonus Time’ initiative, launched by the Trust’s Director General, Fiona Reynolds and Chairman, Simon Jenkins, is a spring gift to the nation and offers everyone the perfect excuse to get out in the fresh air and discover the great outdoors.

“You are never more than 40 minutes away from a place looked after by the National Trust, wherever you are in the country,” said Fiona Reynolds, Director General of the National Trust.

“However people decide to use our ‘Bonus Time’ gift; from taking a stroll in some of the most glorious gardens our country has to offer, to walking our dramatic coastline and breathing in the unforgettable views, we can promise it will be time well spent.”

A true urban oasis, Osterley Park and House’s spectacular mansion is surrounded by tranquil gardens, park and farm land and is one of the last surviving country estates in London. Once described as the ‘palace of all palaces’ Osterley was created in the late 18th century by a wealthy banking family to entertain and impress their friends and clients. Today Osterley offers a fascinating glimpse into the exclusive lifestyle and stories of the Child family and the people behind the scenes that worked to keep the estate running.

“Next weekend’s special free opening is the perfect excuse to discover this hidden gem on your doorstep,” says Osterley’s Property Manager, Sian Harrington. "There is so much to see and do here that the whole family will be entertained and inspired."

People wanting to make the most of the ‘bonus time’ weekend need to download a voucher from the Trust’s website at www.nationaltrust.org.uk/bonus.

Osterley Park House will be open 12 – 4.30pm and the Garden 11am – 5pm with last entry 30 minutes before closing. Car parking charges at Osterley apply as usual over the weekend - £3.50 per car or free for National Trust Members.
