Potential Changes to Hounslow Ward Boundaries

Public meeting to be hold to understand the process

An electoral review of the ward boundaries for the London Borough of Hounslow will be taking place, led by the independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE).

Residents are invited to listen first-hand to the Boundary Commission’s presentation and ask any questions on the process of Hounslow’s review at its Public Meeting on Wednesday 14 November, from 6pm in the Blue zone at the Civic Centre, Lampton Road, Hounslow, TW3 4DN

This is separate to the constituency boundary review which took place recently.

Through the review, the Commission aims to deliver electoral equality for voters in council elections, so that each councillor represents roughly the same number of constituents. It will also try to ensure that new council wards reflect, as far as possible, the interests and identities of communities across Hounslow as well as providing effective and convenient local government.

The new ward boundaries will come into effect at the 2022 local elections.

Councillor Steve Curran, leader of Hounslow Council said: “At the second stage of the review, due to begin in January 2019, the Boundary Commission will be inviting the views of local people on where they think the boundaries should be. Therefore, I strongly encourage residents to attend the Public Meeting to find out more about the process, as any proposed changes will directly affect them.

“The council will also be pulling together its own proposal for the LGBCE to consider, based on a number of factors including population projections for the future.”

The Hounslow review is part of a three-year programme of work by the LGBCE that will see changes to ward boundaries in 25 London boroughs. More information about the review, including the latest updates on the Hounslow review, is available at lgbce.org.uk.
