The Floating Cinema

People with a love of the nation’s canals and waterways have a final chance to see a free open air event at Brentford Lock on Sunday afternoon and evening (2 August).

For the past two months the Floating Cinema has been travelling from Brentford Lock to Bristol and back along the historic Kennet and Avon Canal hosting live shows charting the history of the canal route.

The free event on Sunday, which is part-funded by Hounslow Council, includes screenings of ‘From the Sea to the Land Beyond’ , a maritime documentary by Penny Woolcock and featuring a soundtrack by British Sea Power, and, ‘Repeat to Flourish’, a newly commissioned documentary meticulously sourced from the towns and villages along the route.

The event is free but places must be booked in advance because space is limited.

Councillor Ed Mayne, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Leisure, Hounslow Council, said: “”This has been a fascinating project and I would very much urge people to book a place if they can. It’s as much a celebration of the borough’s history and how it was intertwined with the canal as it is an artistic take on the subject; and we were pleased to be involved.”
