New Play Area Feature Completed in Isleworth Park

A natural play area feature has been installed at Farnell Road open space in Isleworth for local families to enjoy.
The Council identified six potential projects to take on within the area and delivered an engagement survey to the local community to find out what improvements they would like to see.
Residents were asked about how they use the space and how best it could be improved. The survey indicated that most use the green space frequently, and that tree planting, the planting of wildflowers, and a children’s play area were most supported.
In response, a natural play area with logs, a maze, wildflower areas with pollinator hotels, and native hedging to improve the already admired green space was constructed over four weeks.
The completion marks the end of phase one, with future improvements planned for 2023 alongside further funding. The works are part of Hounslow’s commitment to investing £5 million into its parks and green spaces.
The area is a prominent part of the local and wider community, and one example of the Council’s ambitions to classify 45% of the borough as green infrastructure.
Reverend David Maclure, Vicar of St John's with St Mary's, Isleworth, said, “The green space alongside Farnell Road has been a favourite place for dog walkers, myself included, and for kids to play ball games in good weather. Having lived on that side of Isleworth for a few years, I can say our family really enjoyed that welcome green space among the residential housing in that area.
“The addition of a new playground area will really add some life, however - and hopefully will draw in lots of young families and residents. I hope it is used and enjoyed for many years to come!”
Councillor Salman Shaheen, Cabinet Member for Parking, Parks, and Leisure, said, “Hounslow has some of the leading parks and green spaces in London, with these areas becoming even more crucial to the health and wellbeing of residents and wider communities across the pandemic.
“We know how much residents value green spaces like Farnell Road open space, and the Council is delighted to have completed phase one of the improvement works.
“We believe that the improvements made to community spaces should be a two-way conversation with residents. That’s why we’ve worked closely with our community to find out what they value, and more importantly, what they need.
“We look forward to delivering further improvements to Farnell Road open space in the near future, and providing the community with the tools they need to most enjoy Hounslow’s green spaces.”
