A couple from Brentford have been jailed after being found guilty of selling drugs in the city of Exeter.

36-year-old Carla Shelvock and 32-year-old Peter Rogers booked themselves into a rented apartment and a hotel around the New Year and brought a supply of Class A drugs with them.

Rogers was spotted by police acting suspiciously on 8 January and when detained evidence was found of drug dealing activity on his phone. When he was searched they found two bags of drugs stuffed down his trousers.

The pair claimed that they had been forced into dealing drugs by a violent gang operating in London who had driven them up to the south west to work off debts.

However, a hearing at Exeter Crown Court concluded that they were not acting under duress. Messages on their phones show them trying to up the payments they were receiving from their suppliers as opposed to any evidence of them being threatened.

They admitted charges relating to the supply of heroin and cocaine and possession of criminal property.

Rogers sentenced to four and a half years in prison while Shelvock got three years. The mother of four told the court that she had been in regular employment before she had turned to drugs after being the victim of domestic abuse.
