Brentford FC will be playing for the first time ever in the Premier League in a few months after beating Swansea City 2-0 at Wembley this Saturday (24 May).

The Bees confounded expectations that the club would once again fail to get through in a play off by denying their opponents a single shot on target and scoring twice in the first twenty minutes.

1947 was the last time Brentford were in the top flight of English football and they become the 50th club to play in the Premier League.

The win means both top flight rugby and football will be taking place at the Brentford Community Stadium.

Brentford won a penalty after a cagey start which Ivan Toney dispatched without any sign of nerves. The Welsh team hadn’t really recovered before Emiliano Marcondes' added the second on 20 minutes. They could have had a third just a minute later when a Toney volley hit the underside of the bar and bounced out.

Swansea offered little in response other than an Andre Ayew header which hit the top of the bar.

A very harsh sending off of a Swansea player in the second half ruled out any hope of a comeback and the painful memories of Brentford’s play-off loss to Fulham just ten month’s ago were wiped out.
