Beat the Street 2019 has got off to a great start with more than 19,000 residents already signed up in just one week!

Since it kicked off on Wednesday, 18th September with a launch event at Osterley Park, participants have walked, run and cycled nearly 21,000 miles together as part of the competition. Beat the Street aims to increase walking and cycling in Hounslow by turning the borough into a giant game.

This week is ‘Go Explore’ week for the competition, and players are invited to try out new areas including the recently-refurbished playgrounds at Redlees Park, St Dunstan’s, Hawthorn Hatch, Carville North Park and St Paul’s. Players who tap the Beat Boxes in these areas from 25th September (which is National Fitness Day) and 1st October will go into a prize draw to win a free leisure centre pass.

As well as schools, businesses, workplaces or members of the public are invited to join in the game – cards are still available at distribution points across Hounslow while stocks still last. Residents are also able to enter their own teams into the competition with a minimum of 12 players by emailing team.hounslow@beatthestreet.me

Beat the Street is delivered by Intelligent Health on behalf of the London Borough of Hounslow. Speaking about the reaction to the game, Councillor Katherine Dunne, Cabinet Member for Communities and Workforce, Hounslow Council, said: “It’s amazing to see so many people in Hounslow out walking and cycling together as part of Beat the Street. Over the next five weeks, stay tuned as there will be lots of events, opportunities to score bonus prizes and extra prizes to be won.”
